good morning, good squad. daylight savings is officially here, which means we can all use some good music in our lives to get us through these dark times. the good news is that while i’ve been absent from your inbox, i’ve still been diving deep into music new and old. so hopefully this infinitesimal slice of the good-music-sphere starts your week on a good foot.

sound gooooooood!?

MUSIC HISTORY

1001 albums to listen to before you die

just a tiny plug for a homegrown tool that i’ve been using these past months called the 1001 Albums Generator. the concept is simple:

once upon a time, top UK and US music journalists assembled to create a definitive and evolving list of all the albums one must listen to before they die. this list is aptly titled 1001 albums you must hear before you die.

while listening to this many albums may seem like daunting task, a bored yet passionate man named Hans decided to make it a bit more palatable. his website gives you one album from this list per day for your listening pleasure, then lets you rate that album once you’ve listened to it. simple!

i’ve been using it for a month or two now and feel quite a bit wiser. some gems so far include:

so yes i highly recommend using this tool and I send my infinite appreciation to people who do cool stuff without expecting anything in return. get started here.

NOT-NEW RELEASES

what i’m listening to this week

MIDWEST EMO

👍👍 really really good - this week was the tenth anniversary of a sick album that turned me into a forever Foxing fan

⭐ standout tracks: “The Magdalene” “Glass Coughs”

EXPERIMENTAL

👍 really good - genuinely weird music that rewards you for sticking with it. very ambient, very poetic, very noisy, very contemporary art exhibit-y

⭐ standout tracks: “Here” “Win!”

ALBUM

front to back

an album where you can bet your bottom dollar that every song is fantastic

ATMOSPHERIC NATURE CORE

👍👍👍 really really really good - i will continue to hype Ann Annie until i die. an album built for pondering. perfectly encapsulates dusk in the rocky mountain plains.

🤔 current status: writing music, may they never stop
